Fix “Damaged app” Message

Posted by in IT

TL;DR: Use xattr -rc /location/MyApplication.app (see here). I use to save all my apps on my NAS. The other day I wanted to use an old app for colour palette. I’ve downloaded it from my NAS and…: “MyApplication” is damaged and can’t be opened. Delete “MyApplication” and download it again from the App Store! What? It’s my app! So, apparently, Yosemite checks new apps (the same old “Your app was downloaded from http://www.example.com” message) but the apps are also verified against the store. It may or may not have something to do…read more

Old stuff – Homeworld 2 Cheats

Posted by in Gaming

A while ago I played Homeworld. While I enjoyed most of the game, some levels were taking too long… Soo, I had this on an old stick lying around… Modify RU’s This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the “persist*.lua” file in the “\homeworld2\bin\profiles\profile1\campaign\ascension” folder. Note: the number in the filename corresponds to the mission. Locate the “RUs =” line at the bottom of the file and change its value to any desired number. Unlock…read more

Qt: Embedding Multiple Widgets in a Menu Item – 2004 style

Posted by in Software

TL;DR: This post is about an experience I had in 2004 and it’s part of my consolidating technical posts I wrote in time. It may or may not be relevant to today’s technologies. One night in October 2004 (WOW! it’s almost 10 years!!) I decided that it should be possible to group a bunch of widgets (back-to-back) in a menu entry. ..Ahh, the stress :).. First, I tried “java style” (aka look on the net, maybe some other manic already did it). Either I was too tired, or it just…read more

World cup

Just seen the Sweden-Paraguay game (after seeing the second half of the england game). Both games were crap and the commentators on BBC and RTE acknowledged that and bashed both “top” teams. However, both winners (Sweden and England) will most likely play further and advance. I can see everyone praising England in a week or so saying that they had a slow start blah blah blah… In fairness, the best games were not the favourites like Brazil, England or France. Spain, Korea were good and entertaining. Other than that, I’ve…read more

Steaua, the babies

My fav team crashed out of the UEFA cup in style: leading with 2-0 (3-0 on aggregate), they managed to concede 4 goals in 60 minutes. It’s disappointing, but not as bad as when they sold the game to PSG and lost 5-0 with a penalty in the first minute. Hope Middlesborough will win the cup; they deserve it. — This is a really old post published originally on my blogspot blog A little experiment: If you find this post and ad below useful, please check the ad out :-)

New laptop – episode 2

.. or in other words, “why, oh, why I did this to myself”… First, the generics. I’m parametrising the distros I’ve tried so far and then I’ll explain what’s my setup now. Several parameters of outside interest are monitored: Sound: If the sound works out of the box or if I had something done to it Graphics: Does X work? how? Network: Cabled, wirelss, bluetooth status Function keys: the (in)famous FN Hardware monitoring: CPU frequency, temperature Some other notes First, I’ve followed Arielo’s detailson setiing up Ubuntu. So I’ve got…read more
